Scene shifts to Cal’s hospital room. Ben is on the phone talking to Michaela.

BEN: Okay, send me the picture. I’ll take it from here. All right.

He clicks phone off.

BEN: Grace. I think we should hold off on the antibiotics.

GRACE: Ben, we’ve been here before. You know how it works. Medical triage, we treat the most pressing issue first. Right now, that is his fever.

BEN: And antibiotics are the right treatment if there’s a medical reason.

GRACE: Of course there’s a medical reason.

BEN: I’m not so sure. Look, Michaela just found what we’ve been looking for, – and if I can—

GRACE: Found what?

BEN: Grace, the government didn’t release all the passengers. Some they sent to a a farm upstate, and I think they’re experimenting on these people, and Cal is somehow channeling what they’re going through up there, – and I need to—

GRACE: Ben. Ben. Listen to yourself. You sound crazy.

BEN: I-I know, but I need you to trust me.

GRACE: How? I don’t even know who you are anymore. You used to be the guy who would yell at anti-vaxxers on TV. You think holistic medicine is a joke. You read every single scientific article to try and find a cure for our son. What happened?

BEN: The plane. I’m still the same person, I swear. But right now I know what I have to do. Give me an hour.

GRACE: You want to leave? Now?

BEN: No, I want to stay here with you and Cal, but there’s someone I have to talk to. He can help.

GRACE: So call him.

BEN: He’s not someone I can get on the phone. Please, I wouldn’t be doing this if it wasn’t the best way to help Cal. I’ll be back as soon as I can.

Here is when Ben first told Grace about the connecting event that would later cause Cal to leave a note, walk away from home unannounced, and save the same people Ben is referring to.

Grace didn’t listen to Ben then. Nor did she listen to Ben later. Neither did she ever question Cal about what happened.

Instead, when Ben asked her to trust him. She said the exact same thing at that particular moment in time that she would later say before she kicked Ben out of their home … and for all intents and purposes out of her life:

“How? I don’t even know who you are anymore.”
