Science, Sex, and Saanvi
Saanvi Bahl is an intriguing character. She’s renowned and highly regarded. Her pediatric cancer research is responsible for saving hundreds of lives. On the other hand, little is known regarding her previous personal relationships, other than her Seat 3B “no show” vacation travel companion.
And next to nothing has been revealed that’s related to her background; i.e., childhood, education, family, friends, etc. Much more background information was revealed about the murderous criminal James Griffin; and he was only a recurring character who is now “dead.”
Blood, Sweat, and Tears
Surrounding the selfless efforts of Saanvi are the discovery of unusual blood markers, blood samples, ischemic stokes, and near-death experiences. From saving Cal’s life to providing much needed medical care to former 828 passengers who suffered extreme trauma because of torturous Frankenstein-like experiments, Saanvi has shown the qualities of an Angel.
No sex or intimacy for Saanvi the Angel? What about her needs? She’s not a robot. She has feelings and emotions. Michaela and Jared engaged in consensual sexual intimacy, and Jared was married Michaela’s BFF Lourdes. Grace has cuckolded both Ben and Danny. Why not Ben and Saanvi?
Technically Ben and Grace are not legally married. Ben was declared “legally” dead which makes his marriage to Grace no longer legally binding. Perhaps, the Peacock, the messenger of the god(s), has delivered a “calling” in the form of a warning, i.e., sexual intimacy between Saanvi and Ben is considered “infidelity” and is an unforgivable “No-No.”
Pain and No Gain
Saanvi was personally responsible for ensuring that Cal was enrolled in the cancer research program. She was also responsible for saving Cal’s life when he was “connected” to Marko Valeriev in a deadly mind-link.
What did she receive from Grace for her efforts in saving Cal's life, other than condescending remarks like “… but this is my son” and “I’m done with you” (106.20)? Grace never apologized for her emotional behavior or showed any appreciation whatsoever to Saanvi for helping to save Cal’s life.
Saanvi may be caring, but she is also careless. She was duped into providing a home visit for medical purposes by an unhinged woman named Alice. Alice’s husband Jacob has terminal cancer and holds Saanvi hostage, and threatens to kill her unless she cured Jacob of cancer.
The experience with Alice left Saanvi physically shaken and mentally unbalanced. But there can be no gain if there’s no pain. Being duped is quickly and increasing becoming Saanvi’s new lifestyle. Why seek the light when it’s easier to find darkness at the end of the downward spiraling tunnel.
Now that the Major is personally involved in Saanvi’s mental health and well-being, it had been suggested by the show’s creator that, in Season 2, Saanvi’s mental health and other situational problems will get much worse before they get better. That is, if her problems do get any better.
Time does not stop or permanently stand still
After all, when it comes to Saanvi’s history and background, the more that’s revealed … the more unsettling and perilous her life becomes. Science and sex excluded, Saanvi’s character has the persona of an Angel, but it appears that her life, in the “near future,” will become a living Hell. Who will save her? Or will she save herself?
Time ... past, present, and future ... is an important indicator regarding what happened and will happen to Saanvi. But is time on her side?
Saanvi Bahl is a research scientist
Saanvi may has lost 5 1/2 years of time due to what happened to Flight 828; but she didn't lose her mind between the time she disappeared and returned ... or did she? She meets Dr. Matthews twice and, without hesitation, trusts him to recommend a therapist to treat the treasure she values the most ... her mind?
She trusts Dr. Matthews, a stranger, to help her seek mental healing more than she does anyone else ... including her own parents? Saanvi's not that naive; nor is she that stupid. Or is she? It is what it is. Then there's Troy Davis, a lab technician. Regardless of the topic, in what universe would a lab technician get all up in a medical doctor's face making some absurd request to jointly help write a medical research paper with her?
It's strange that Saanvi either failed or forgot to research the new therapist Dr. Matthews recommended to her before blindly walking into the therapist's office.
Saanvi Bahl needs love in her life
And Saanvi was somehow appreciative that Troy Davis could have been romantically hitting on her at work? WTH? Saanvi should definitely get out and party more. Her Seat 8B travel companion couldn't have been worth her time or effort if she's enamored a smidgen with the workplace harasser and creepy Troy Davis.
What has caused the intellectual and intelligent Saanvi Bahl to change into a dimwitted, simple-minded individual overnight? She fought to get Cal into the cancer research program. She fought Grace to keep him in the program. She has always shown strength and courage. She is also aware of the dangers around her, i.e., the "X'ers" and the Major. Yet, the bright and remarkable Saanvi Bahl has closed her eyes to the world in which she now lives ... and has placed all of her trust in two people she had never met ... Dr. Matthews and the Major.
Saanvi needs to be loved ... and she needs to get some love very soon ... the sooner the better.
Fans aboard the 'Benvi Ship' must be disappointed about what happened between Saanvi and Ben after he agreed to use "her body as bait" to help lure the Major into a trap. He didn't know it. But she was secretly attracted to him. There was even a slight chance she would throw caution to the wind and 'give it up' to him. But no more. She no longer trusts him. And she still loves and trusts Alex after standing her up, and refusing to travel on vacation and communicate with her?
What is it about Saanvi and her relationships with married people. Maybe she should sleep with Jared. That way, she gets back at Ben ... and Jared can call it even with Michaela. Just joking. But it would make for "must see" TV. Soap opera at its best. The episode could be called "Touch and Go" or "Rapid Descent."
WTH, Saanvi? Have you lost your frickin' mind? Recklessly using yourself as a guinea pig for what? To solve a "death date" problem which may be unsolvable? Did the Major hypnotize and suggest that you become Dr. Frankenstein and use yourself as the monster; to conduct deadly experiments on yourself to escape a death date that's over 5-years away? I wouldn't put it past the Major. She would rather you torture yourself than have to do it herself.
C'mon, Saanvi. You're too intelligent to behave as stupidly as you've been behaving lately. You're a scientist. Not a mad scientist. But a logical and rational scientist. Compared to you, Dr. Fiona Clarke was a mad scientist ... and you're no Fiona Clarke. I know you haven't had sex since returning; but if that's what's causing you to not behave like yourself, ask Ben to do you a favor. I'm sure his fans wouldn't complain.
And don't worry about Grace, she owes you a solid. You saved Cal's life; and unlike the nurse, the baby's she's carrying had no problem with you drawing Grace's blood. Whatever's going on with you Saanvi; whether it's the after-effects of the Major screwing around inside your head or if you need to get laid, you need to wake up before it's too late. Think of it like this, Saanvi. If you kill yourself by experimenting on yourself, you won't have to worry about anything because you'll be dead long before the June 2, 2024 death date you're trying to save yourself from.
So, Saanvi, relax. Let your hair down, get loose and enjoy life. But most importantly, get laid. Everybody on the show's getting laid except you. If Michaela is allowed to play "hide the salami" both Jared and Zeke. And Grace is free to do both Danny and Ben whenever she wants. Jared was doing his wife Lourdes, then Michaela, and now he's doing Tamara. What are you waiting for? Do Ben if you want. I don't care. To be honest, I don't care who you do ... Zeke, Jared, Michaela, your boss Dr. Brian Cardosa, Alex from the morgue, Michaela's new partner, Drea Mikame. As long as you getting laid and loving it, I'm good. But if your reckless actions end up with you being permanently laid to rest in a grave, I'm not good. Whatever it takes to help, no matter what, I'm on Team Saanvi ... always and forever.
As long as you getting laid and loving it, I'm good.
I'm really concerned about Saanvi's lack of a love-life after her reunion with her Alex. It didn't live up to the hype. Nor did it appear as if there was ever any actual agreement on Alex's part to commit to be in a permanent and open relationship with Saanvi ... for better or for worse. What did Saanvi expect to happen? For Alex, a married woman, to run away with her to Jamaica? And then what?
... too intelligent to behave as stupidly as you've been behaving ...
Saanvi is my favorite main character. But when it comes to love, Saavni's Seat 8B's soap opera drama was more wishful thinking than it was unbridled passion. She had feelings for a married professional colleague who was an intentional no-show on a planned trip to Jamaica. Instead of running away to Jamaica and expecting to have fun in the sun with Alex, Saanvi should have first asked her get a divorce and move in with her. Then both Saanvi and Alex would have had to commit to living together and then live happily ever-after ... or not.

Scientist and Medical Researcher
Saanvi Bahl, M.D., has been incorrectly described as being a graduate student. Blame the producers and writers. They have made a mountain of mistakes when it comes to merging (IRL) facts within their
lack- of fictional storytelling.
Here's what the producers and writers should have made crystal clear to the viewing audience about Saanvi from the very beginning. And that is, Saanvi Bahl is a licensed medical doctor who was conducting research and pursing a postgraduate certificate in the field of pediatric cancer.
"All men make mistakes, but only wise men learn from their mistakes." — Winston Churchill
Apparently, Saanvi has solved the death date problem by isolating/eradicating the (blood marker) anomaly. Where's the proof? She no longer receives Callings? Will other passengers have the same results? As an experienced medical researcher, wouldn't she want to conduct more experiments before immediately jumping to conclusions?
What about the Ischemic Stoke brain scans which revealed all of the passengers had undergone a near-death experience? Did isolating/eradicating the blood marker reverse the effects of the Ischemic Stroke? It's a sci-fi show. I get it. I also know that the death date in and of itself is not the cause of Flight 828's mysterious disappearance and return. Dark lightning shares responsibility for what happened to the plane ... maybe?
Here are two questions for Saanvi the medical researcher: If removing the anomaly from the blood blocks the ability to receive Callings; is it also possible that removing the anomaly could reset the clock and cause an earlier death date? Or would it be better if you consult with Cal before proceeding any further and see what his drawings predict will happen?
Saanvi remains my favorite character on the show. Her storyline is the only one which I continue to find intriguing. Her romantic relationship isn't something that overpowers the story surrounding her character. Unlike the forever churning and messy entanglements propelling Michaela, Zeke, and Jared; Saanvi's relationship with Alex isn't going anywhere. Stick a fork in it. It's done. That is, unless the writers do something extraordinarily stupid. Which is highly possible.
Saanvi and Alex's relationship is what Manifest should be about: it's a relationship that's sci-fi based. Saanvi needs help. She has injected herself with a serum that apparently causes her to have blackouts and memory lost. Who knows? Perhaps, Saanvi's condition is contagious. Although she'll be reluctant to again become intimate with Saanvi, Alex is the perfect person to help because of her related professional and medical knowledge.
To be honest, when it comes to all of the other relationships: Mick and Jared. Mick and Zeke. Jared and Zeke. Ben and Grace. Grace and Danny. Olive and TJ. Danny and Olive. I'm sick and tire of all of them. Too much soap opera, not enough sci-fi. Place all of those relationships on a ship without lifeboats, sail the ship to the Mariana Trench, then repeatedly torpedo the ship until it sinks; and I would say, "good riddance."
Saanvi has Major problems
What happened to Saanvi during the 4-month time-jump? Obviously, she didn't go mad and the Callings didn't kill her. But it does appear she has lost her hospital privileges ... which means she no longer has a job. Why? Saanvi is a world renowned medical doctor. Her research is what discovered the cure for cancer in pediatric patients. She should have been awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine.
Saanvi's current job problems appear to be the workings of Major General Kathryn Fitz, aka, the Major. But why? And why now? The Major herself seems to suffer from Attention Deficit Disorder. She first kidnapped and tortured eleven 828 passengers and left 9 of them in a catatonic state. Then she changed directions and decided to chase Cal around the state; but for some reason she immediately abandoned chasing Cal, who is aka in her classified files as Project Enigma.
Mind game or endgame
Instead of ever approaching and apprehending Cal, she decided to go undercover as a Psychiatrist and tinker around inside of Saanvi's mind. After getting tired of playing with Saanvi's mind, she stole Saanvi's research and lab specimens. And then disappeared for the last 6-months or so. Why is she again setting her sights on Saanvi? That is, if she's responsible for Saanvi losing her hospital privileges. Which is likely. But why? Saanvi isn't the only game in town. There's Ben's "big board" in the garage. There's also Zeke ... Cal... Michaela ... Jared ... Grace ... Eden ...
Why Saanvi? Does the Major enjoy playing Cat-and-Mouse games with Saanvi? Or does she want to hook her up to a few government-approved electrodes and torture her? Poor Saanvi just can't catch a break. When she's not doing harm to herself, someone is doing it for her. How will it end for Saanvi? Will it be at the hands of the Yusuv Al-Zuras prophesy? Or will it be the Major? Or will Saanvi do the deed herself? Or will science save Saanvi?
