What will Capt Bowers do?
Once again, Michaela is mysteriously present and on the scene; and solves a crime by stopping a hostage-taking bank robber from guess what, Capt Bowers, using hostages to rob a bank. Technically, the bank robber, Logan Strickland, walked out of the bank with exactly what he attempted to rob the bank for in the first place ... his grandfather's compass. Then he immediately gives the "compass/evidence" to Michaela ... a NYC police detective who is connected to him by way of Flight 828.
Of course, Jared shows up and vouches for Ben and Logan's brother, Frank. Zeke is also in the bank during the robbery. He's assists the wounded bank manger by taking him outside and then immediately returning to the crime inside the bank. So, what are some of the questions Bowers could possibly have for Michaela?
- Why were you and your boyfriend, Zeke, at the bank? Were you there on a date?
- Do you have an account at the bank or at one of its affiliates or branches?
- Why weren't you carrying your NYPD issued firearm? Even when off-duty, you have legal authorization to do so.
- Off-duty or not. I expect a full written report. And please omit the words "hunch," "guess," "random," or "it's something that just happened."
What about Jared? What will Bowers do about him? She knows about his falsification of an official police report when Michaela "ratted" him out while she was under oath in a courtroom. If Capt Bowers is so "by the book," why hasn't she fired Jared ... or at least suspended him. Jared should have been fired for blowing an undercover DEA operation last year. Actually, Michaela was the one who blew-up the DEA's operation. Jared took responsibility; but thanks to Robert Vance, he didn't lose his job.
But the black mark is still on Jared's record. So, what will Bowers do when she finds out Jared was also at the Landon Strickland bank robbery? Praise and honor him? And consider it a job well-done for being there? Or will the "no-nonsense" Bowers continue to do what she seemingly always does? Look the other way when it comes to Michaela and Jared, and not get involved unless she absolutely has to?
When Michaela was briefing members of her police precinct about the upcoming raid on the X'ers location, Capt Bowers and Detective Jared Vasquez had an interesting conversation. Bowers asked Jared what he thought about Michaela's pending raid. His answer was, "has she ever been wrong?" Bowers' reply, and I'm paraphrasing, "apparently the DA believes her enough to have obtained a search warrant."
That was a strange conversation indeed. Especially since Jared had skipped dinner and already had sex with his favorite bartender and newly-found "booty call," Tamara. For Jared to go undercover without being sanctioned would not only be dangerous for him personally, it would be career ending if something went wrong. Did Jared tell Bowers about his "booty call" with Tamara; and did she give him the green light to go under the covers and get in bed with Tamara and her slime-bag brother, Billy?
Not related; but here's my personal observation of Jared's behavior. He waits 2-years before kissing another woman (Lourdes) after Michaela's disappearance. Then only months after Lourdes leaves town and Michaela kicks him to the curb, he quickly jumps in bed with Tamara. I don't blame him. Tamara is hot. But something is going on with Jared. And it's not all good.
Jared may or may not be undercover investigating the X'ers. If he is, then it's highly likely he had Capt Bowers approval before doing so. It's extremely unlikely that any police detective would or could have the unilateral power to authorize his or her own independent undercover investigation. Which brings me to Michaela.
Her spur of the moment decision to go undercover and engage in a string operation to arrest a drug-dealing kingpin, i.e., Lucas, on behalf of Zeke and Courtney literally happened within hours, if it took that long. Did Michaela have Capt Bowers approval to conduct her sting operation? Did she ask Capt Bowers for approval?
If Bowers is such a "by the book," "no nonsense" NYPD Precinct Captain, why doesn't she exert more control over her detectives; and know what's going on around her? Especially when it comes to Michaela and Jared. Or perhaps, Michaela and Jared are exempt from Bowers' authority; and there's nothing Bowers can do?
