Doing a Little Thinking
As in all posts related to “Manifest,” the scenarios and timelines are under the direct control and responsibility of the showrunner, Jeff Rake. Having said that, here are some of my burning thoughts and questions surrounding the show, which I am totally committed to by the way.
In the New York City Police Department, one progresses through the ranks from Cadet to Chief of the Department. Along the way, a Cadet becomes a Police Officer, then a Detective (3 grades), a Sergeant, then Lieutenant, then Captain, then on up the line; often referred as “the chain of command.” As we now know now in Jeff Rake’s World, Detective (not sure what grade) Jared Vasquez has been granted the opportunity to skip Sergeant rank and proceed to Lieutenant in spite of having violated so many police regulations in the Zeke Landon affair that he should be no longer on the force. Small detail. Who cares, you go Jared!
In the real world a person who goes into a particular business usually has some level of training or expertise in the business they are going into. Not so in Jeff Rake’s world. If you want to open a catering business there is no need to have experience nor training in the Culinary Arts. Take, for example, Mrs. Grace Stone. Rather than going into the Surrogate Mothering business, she decided to do into the catering business although she makes the worst meatloaf on the planet. Go figure. Actually, she sucked at Surrogate Mothering as well. Hope Danny got a refund on his fee.
In the real world an actor with a starring role in a movie or TV show has a direct relevance to the storyline. What does the wife and daughter of an 828 passenger bring to the table? I submit, nothing. In the past Athena Karkanis has had many recurring roles in several TV series and played the roles very well. To be fair, in S1 of Manifest, her role was significant in that one of the top discussion points was “who does she love and who will she end up with?” Those discussions were numerous and various in opinion. However, in S2 her role is basically of no interest. The storyline of passing the blood maker could have gone to anyone who was either a passenger or sex partner of a passenger. She is now simply the recurring wife of Ben Stone and mother of his children. Does her face get removed from the S3 promo banner? Hopefully in Jeff Rake’s world, the character will again contribute something to the show in S3. My preference is a sexual, adulterous, and unhappy wife. I personally hope her lover will NOT be Danny. I hope they find someone with a personality. Danny is just too wimpy and boring.
As far as Olive is concerned, she just needs to go off to college and possibly be called upon to help Ben and Michaela solve various callings. She’s a smart kid and could have an interesting role in solving the mystery. Love life? Nah, too young yet for some primetime audiences. She is a singer by the way. Perhaps in Jeff Rake’s world they could utilize that talent that Luna Blaise has.
Seems like we now have a, 007, license to kill character on the show and that would be Saanvi. Maybe she will become the Raymond Reddington on “Manifest” and develop a “Black List” of x’ers, government agents and so forth that she can go around assassinating for their misdeeds against the 828’ers. She now have a taste for blood.
Lest We Forget
As far as we know the Stone house is still under electronic surveillance both audio and video. Ben tried to find the bugs but the technology had advance in five and a half years to the point that they were undetectable. All he discovered was that his wife was having sex with someone at some time and that it was unprotected. Hopefully, in Jeff Rake’s world, we will get some insight into some of the happenings in the house when, say, Ben was not home. Some examples are:
- We never saw Danny leave the day he stopped by to tell Grace he could get over her. Did they perform their sexual magic that day before he left. Had to have been caught on camera.
- What about Olive’s meatloaf dinner day? Ben had it out with Danny then wimped out and left. We can only assume Danny stayed for dinner. Wonder what he had for dessert? Could it have been a big slice of Grace pie? Let’s go to the replay, shall we?
That is all for now.
Thank you! ... thank you! .... thank you! ... thank you! Reading your thoughts about what has happened, and the potential for what could happen, is better than watching the storylines as they unfold in a half-baked kind of way. I'm concerned that Jeff Rake and his writing staff are either not paying attention to their own shoddy work; or they're too busy "high-fiving" each other to notice.
My preference is a sexual, adulterous, and unhappy wife. I personally hope her lover will NOT be Danny.
Yes, save Grace by allowing her to become uninhibited, again.
Excellent idea. As a singer, I'm sure Luna Blaise would do Manifest fans proud. In Star Trek: Picard, Isa Briones, one of the show's main characters, did an outstanding job singing Blue Skies in the season finale. I agree. Jeff Rake could do a better job when it comes to utilizing the talent he has at his disposal.

The surveillance audio and video tapes inside the Stone house would definitely help to fill-in any of the juicy plot holes that needed filling. It would be interesting to hear the sounds of Danny eating Grace's pie and slurping on her hot, juicy meatloaf. Go to the replay? Hell, yeah!
Seems that Saanvi studied under Kim Jong Un and learned the art of assassination using that old tried a true VX Nerve Agent like Kim used on his half brother. Works fast just like what happened to the Major. Saanvi is a born assassin for sure. Ben may order hits on a few folks in S3. He'll have Danny hit for sure but I'm in the "new lover" camp with Mary Grace. I'm thinking Wesley Snipes. Athena Karkanis starred opposite of him in "Art of War 2." They did the sex thing in that movie so rehearsal would be minimal. Only problem is that she betrayed him and he killed her at the end. I have to say the death scene was pretty bad, Ms. Karkanis is a much better actress than she showed in that scene.
And yes, a viewing of the surveillance video would be great. We may find out that there were other popping Mrs. Stone while Mr. Stone was out chasing callings. When Zeke came to visit Calvin, she seemed fine with telling Ben that it would be okay for her to be alone with Zeke and he didn't need to stay. Right, "run alone Ben, I'll be fine."
IDK, just a thought.
I could go on but I don't want to bore anyone.
Saanvi is a born assassin for sure.
In Manifest time, Olive was 17-years old at the end of S2 and will be 18-years old in a few months (April 19, 2020). She'll then be old enough to sign her own modeling contract.
