Manifest and Casabanca Parallel and Prediction
I was watching "Casablanca" for the 10 millionth time last evening and it dawned on me Jeff Rake has seen this movie many times as well. I truly believe he has designed a parallel story line in "Manifest" with Danny, Grace, and Ben just like Julius and Phillip Epstein and Howard Cook did in the 1942 film "Casablanca" with Rick Blain, Ilsa Lund Laszlio, and Victor Laszlio.
In "Casablanca" Ilsa' husband Victor was a resistance fighter against the Nazis i WWII. He was caught and put in a concentration camp and Ilsa was lead to believe he was killed there. She escaped to Paris and started a romantic relationship with Rick Blain, a bar.night club owner. When the Nazis were close to occupying Paris, she and Rick were going to escape together but she found out that Victor was alive. She left Rick waiting at the train station in the rain and he left without her or an explanation. This in my opinion perfectly matches season one of "Manifest." Ben and Grace are married, Ben presumably is killed in a plane crash, Grace has a romantic relationship with Danny, Ben turns up not dead and by the end of S1E10, Danny is basically left at the train station, in the rain, and without an explanation.
In "Casablanca," fast forward to Rick's nightclub a few years later and who walks in Ilsa and her husband Victor needing papers to get to the United States from Morocco. We have not seen this parallel in "Manifest" but I think we will in a future season, maybe Season 3. Back to "Casablanca." Ilsa falls back in love with Rick and she thinks Rick is going to give Victor his papers and she was going to stay with Rick. But no, Rick tells her she belongs with Victor and makes her get on the plane a leave Morocco.
I see, Ben and Grace seeking some sort of life or death assistance and when they seek that assistance, the provider turns out to be Danny. Grace upon seeing Danny, falls back in love with him and they hatch a plan to send Ben on his way and Grace and Danny resume their mattress games. But Danny, after stroking her a few time decides, she belongs with Ben, gives them the assistance, and sends them on their way.
This would complete the "Casablanca" parallel and give Danny a proper exit from the show.
My two cents worth.
